The flight of skilled manpower from southern African economies to the global market has reached critical levels, as Zimbabwe, South Africa and other countries in the region contemplate novel strategies to plug the brain drain and retain their best brains or at least maximise their earnings from remittances. The Southern Times looks at the Sadc region’s plans to curb the flight of skills and explores whether remittances will compensate the region for its lost skills.
