Mugabe sworn in- How many remember 1980?

Robert Mugabe has been sworn in as President of Zimbabwe for the 6th term since the country’s independence from Britain in 1980. There are wide disparities between the circumstances surrounding Mugabe’s ascension to power in 1980, on the back of millions of supporters both in Zimbabwe and in the region, and now, with thousands exiled from their homes and hundreds burnt and mutilated.

A revolution means many things to many people… and in Zimbabwe, this is particularly clear. In politics, as Shakespeare said, it is better to be that which you destroy, than by destruction, to dwell in doubtful joy.
