Victoria Falls Devil's Pool, Time to Act!

Zimbabwean plunges to death to save tourist at Victoria Falls

Devil’s Pool, Victoria Falls. This is one of the most popular features with tourists visiting the Victoria Falls, and yet most dangerous. I have been in it once myself and it feels quite slippery at the bottom with all the smooth rocks and residual algae. Elephants and people sometimes fall 90m off the edge. The Zambezi river is infested with crocodiles though there are no crocodiles in the gorge because of its turbulent nature. Chances of survival are unfortunately slim, even for elephants. Zimbabwe and Zambia tourism authorities might want to consider controlling access to the pool in the interests of safety and no life-savers can be deployed. Two choices, restrict access or keep a tally of people falling in every year till nothing is left of the resort’s image.
